Underwriter

We currently have an outstanding opportunity for an Underwriter.
Position Summary
The Underwriter is responsible for guiding and performing day-to-day underwriting, application review, risk evaluation, pricing, and other policy services. This involves investigating and verifying submissions and approving or declining applications for coverage.
Key Functions
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Coordinate and perform technical underwriting tasks which include investigating and reviewing new applications, determination of risk classification, application of judgment credits, reviewing or making approval/denial decisions, reviewing and assessing coverage needs and preparing endorsements, and regular re-underwriting of existing accounts, including analysis of loss experience.
- Communicate with physicians, clinic office managers, medical school representatives, state medical association staff, insurance brokers, and agents to assist applicants and policyholders and gather necessary policy information.
- Coordinate and perform company policy services which include correspondence, reviewing letters on information and policy interpretation, and/or developing policy endorsements.
- Produce an underwriting profit that enhances policyholder surplus, allowing the company to better serve its policyholders and the physician community in the territories we serve.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
- 3 years of underwriting decision-making experience
- Demonstrated experience in underwriting “claims made” medical professional liability insurance preferred
- High-level analytical skills and ability to make sound underwriting judgments
- Understand pricing, insurance policy language, claims-made and occurrence coverages, authority limits, underwriting technical manuals, and basic underwriting support systems
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and leadership skills,
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team
- Professional designations such as CPCU, RPLU, or ARM are a significant plus
