Government Relations
The Government Relations program at Physicians Insurance has established the company as a recognized public policy leader and effective advocate of reasonable laws that impact health care liability, insurance, and patient safety. We work in close cooperation with many other organizations that pursue similar goals.
The Government Relations staff and company management are trusted and valued sources of information and ideas for legislators, regulators, and others concerned about our issues. As a result, we are frequently asked to serve on task forces to develop new laws and regulations and to serve on the boards of local and national organizations and coalitions. Government Relations recognizes the importance of a bipartisan political contribution effort to support candidates open to reasonable laws in our areas of emphasis—health care liability reform, insurance, and patient safety. The program works hard to recruit intelligent and concerned legislative and judicial candidates who are able and willing to look at all sides of these issues. Corporate sponsorships of medical and legislative events are another important part of the Government Relations effort. Such events will generally promote access to care, patient education, medical research, or physician education. Look for our regular column in the Physicians Report providing updates on Government Relations activities.
