Employment Practices Liability
Employment-related lawsuits are the fastest-growing type of civil litigation in the United States. Insureds need to be aware of this exposure and plan for the future. Employment Practices Defense (EPD) coverage provides up to $25,000 for legal defense in employment-related claims per insured event, with a $1,000 deductible. Because it is built into each insured’s policy, there is no extra charge to insureds for this coverage.
Additionally, employers who want to manage today’s workplace challenges can find excellent information at the EPD HELPLINE, which is available only to Physicians Insurance members. Here members can access useful updates and comparisons on federal and state laws, state compliance guides, forms, posters, job descriptions, and more. This helpline provides useful information about employment practices, yet it does not provide legal advice, and the information provided may not always be consistent with the law of a particular state. Employers who want upgraded coverage for employment-related lawsuits can purchase Employment Practices Liability (EPL) coverage for an additional premium. This policy provides broad coverage for employment-related claims such as discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, hostile work environment, failure to hire or promote, retaliation, wrongful discipline, and coverage for claims brought forward by third parties. The policy provides payment for judgment and settlement costs as well as additional defense costs up to the limits of the policy. The policy also gives insureds access to a powerful helpline service that includes unlimited access to employment attorneys and online contact with forms, checklists, federal and state updates, and HR Express updates. To obtain a premium estimate for an EPL policy that reflects your clinic setting, you can request a premium indication online or call our Marketing Department at 1-800-962-1399 (Seattle) or 1-800-962-1398 (Spokane). |
