Risk Management Reference Guide - Chapter 6
Treatment of Minors
Working with minors is full of challenges and opportunities. While navigating the various needs of patient and parent, you have the opportunity to help a young patient learn how to become an adult patient capable of partnering with you over the life of your physician-patient relationship. In recognition of the importance of this subject, Physicians Insurance devoted an entire chapter to the issues that often arise when working with minors. Though some of the articles and resources listed below may be specific to Washington, members who practice in Idaho and Oregon will find the general advice useful. We encourage members to use this information for staff education and office policy development. As always, not every question can be answered in an article. Members should feel free to consult a risk management expert on specific questions. A risk management consultant is available by phone Monday through Friday at 1-800-962-1399 (Western Washington and Oregon) or 1-800-962-1398 (Eastern Washington and Idaho), or e-mail us at risk@phyins.com.
