Description: Professional practice guidelines—designed to support the decision-making process in patient care—can augment a practitioner’s experience and knowledge. This monograph details components of asthma guidelines from the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program (NAEPP), which focus on four necessary components of asthma care: assessment and monitoring; education; control of environmental factors and comorbid conditions; and medications.

Learning Objectives: Upon completion, participants should be able to:
1) Summarize the main messages of the EPR-3 asthma guidelines
2) Apply best practices for teaching families about asthma and monitoring patients’ care

Learning Assessment: There will be a posttest for this activity with a minimum performance requirement of 4 out of 5 correct answers.

Estimated time to complete activity: 0.50 hour

Method and Medium: To obtain CNE credit, complete a pretest, view the entire online presentation, complete the evaluation and posttest. Once completed, a certificate will be generated for printing.

Continuing Nursing Education Information: Successful completion of this course includes completion of the post-test with an 80% passage rate and completion of the course evaluation. This continuing nursing education program has been approved for 0.5 contact hours by LAMMICO/Medical Interactive. LAMMICO/Medical Interactive is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
